Daily Routine

9 am: Registration

The children find their names and sign themselves in for the day, registration is in the main playroom. We discuss the activities available that day and remind children of our Preschool Promises and values which include how important it is to use kind hands and kind words whilst playing, and how they can use the sand timer to independently ensure everyone gets their turn with popular toys.

For the younger children, playtime starts straight away if they do not wish to join us on the carpet, where they can enjoy the activities.

9.15 am – 11.45 am: Playtime

There are a variety of child-led and adult-led activities available in the preschool and the large outside area, which includes an outside cabin, an area for bikes, scooters, scuttlebugs, hop scotch, water wall and a mud kitchen.

During this time, there may also be:

·         nature walks

·         fun and exercise in the playground

·         gardening club with Dawn

·         visit’s from Reverend Nikki with songs

9:15am: Phonics lessons take place in our outside cabin

The older children are introduced to the use of phonics to “sound out” words. Children learn to recognise how sounds are represented alphabetically and identify some letter sounds, symbols, characters and signs.

10:15am: Snack bar opens
We run a ‘rolling’ snack bar from 10:15 a.m., allowing the children to choose their snack from a selection of fruit, vegetables, rice cakes and breadsticks. Water is always available.

11.45 am – noon: Song and Storytime

The same story is read to the children for a period of a week as this encourages participation and anticipation.

Noon – 1 pm: Lunchtime

The children eat their packed lunches together, under the close supervision of staff. We encourage them to try their best to open packets before we step in to help, as this helps to develop both their independence and the motor skills and finger strength they need for good pencil control. Once children have finished their lunch, they take part in quieter activities or look at books until their friends are finished.

1 pm - 2.15 pm: Activity afternoons

There are a variety of physical activities that the teachers run in the afternoons, these vary from Sensory Circuits, PE lessons and Music and Dance.

2.15 pm– 2.25 pm: Storytime

2.30 pm:  Home time.
